Descripcion

The Salar de Surire Natural Monument in Chile is an impressive high-altitude salt flat located at over 4,200 meters (13,800 feet) above sea level. It is home to flamingos, vicuñas, and natural hot springs. Surrounded by mountains and volcanoes, it is a protected natural reserve managed by CONAF, known for its biodiversity and unique landscape. Cerro Chiguana is situated in an area characterized by volcanic and desert scenery, and is part of the Andes Mountains, forming a group of mountains and volcanoes that shape the breathtaking landscapes of the Chilean Altiplano. Both sites are notable for their natural beauty and ecological importance in the high Andean region.

Day 1

At 8:00 a.m., we will pick you up from your hostel in Putre to begin our adventure to the Salar de Surire Natural Monument.

Our first destination will be the beautiful Bofedal de Misitune, where you’ll have the chance to see vicuñas and rheas in their natural habitat. Then, we’ll head out on a roughly one-hour trek through the fascinating DiablaMarka Canyon, where the breathtaking scenery will leave you in awe. To recharge, we’ll enjoy a box lunch in this stunning setting.

After lunch, we’ll head to the Chinchillani area, where you’ll be amazed by the flamingo lagoons—a natural spectacle you won’t want to miss. To end the day, we’ll unwind at the Polloquere Hot Springs, soaking in their revitalizing thermal waters.

Finally, we’ll head to our campsite at the foot of the majestic Cerro Chiguana, where we’ll share a delicious dinner under a star-filled sky.

Day 2

We’ll have an early breakfast to start the day full of energy. Then we’ll head toward Cerro Chiguana, which rises to 5,320 meters (17,454 feet) above sea level, with an ascent gain of 830 meters (2,723 feet). The hike to the summit will take approximately 4 hours, during which you’ll receive trail snacks to keep you energized and motivated.

Upon reaching the summit, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views, including the majestic Taapaca Volcano and the vast Salar de Surire. It’s the perfect moment to take in the surrounding natural beauty and capture unforgettable photos.

The descent will take about 3 hours, and once we’re back at camp, we’ll pack everything up and get ready for the return journey. We estimate you’ll arrive at your hotel in Putre around 7:00 p.m., with your heart full of memories and your mind brimming with new experiences.
